La Confluencia is nestled in a small, fertile valley at the foot of the eastern slope of the Andes Mountains in southwestern Argentina. The valley was carved over millennia by the Azul and Encanto Blanco rivers, and the point at which these rivers meet gives name to the place: The Confluence. Distant mountains with perennial snow cover, lush native forests, crystal clear rivers, and the ever present sound of cascading water define this environment.
Uninhabited until recent times, the region’s first settlers arrived by horseback from Chile about 100 years ago. A more recent wave of immigration by individuals and families seeking respite from the larger cities of Argentina and Europe began arriving in the 1970’s and continues unabated to this day. In the Confluencia valley, we established our small farms slowly and arduously without benefit of either electricity or phones, as these services were not established until the early 2000’s. And our only means of vehicle access continues to be a rough 4WD trail which is often impassable in winter.
Today we are eight families sharing this small corner of the planet; sharing with one another the land and water, work and joy, hopes and dreams. And sharing with those who visit us our vision of a different world. |
